About Dr. Lee Bartel
Dr. Lee Bartel is a professor in music and was previously the Associate Dean for research at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music. He was also the director for music and health research.
Dr. Bartel is well known for his research and design of music meant to counteract pain.
Dr. Bartel is a notable specialist in music therapy and has been awarded best researcher recognitions for his work including being voted Canada’s top ten most influential psychologists. He is a noted health expert who specializes in studies around how patients benefit from sound vibrations that stimulate the body’s mood.
He has served on the Accreditation Review Board for the Canadian Association of Music Therapy. He has been involved in studies with the Centre for Health Promotion, University of Toronto, and supervised doctoral research at Bloorview Kid’s Rehab and post-doctoral research at Lyndhurst Hospital and Baycrest Hospital. Dr. Bartel was the founder of the Music and Health Research Collaboratory at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Bartel met the demand for health-oriented music by developing three successful brands, Solitude records, Sonic Aid, and Somerset Entertainment. His gold and platinum album work has been nominated for several Juno Awards as well as being a bestseller with academic papers to his name.
